Fandoms of interest

What fandoms are already calling to you in the tagset?
What are you still hoping to see? (may or may not be your request)

I haven't shaken further, but interested in Enchanted Forest Chronicles, Fleetwood Mac, and October Daye. Hoping to see North of North.

Dragonriders of Pern, Cthulhu Mythos, Junior (1994)

Columbo, Hardy Boys, Hitchhiker's Guide, Ludwig, Majora's Mask, Princess Bride.

Also intrigued by the presence of fic for Shirley Jackson's The Lottery; I went to try and look up the request, but it doesn't actually seem to be a nominated fandom. Maybe a crossover with something that hasn't been wrangled yet?

Yeah, The Lottery fic threw me for a loop initially as the only tagged character that's visible, Christopher Summers, is a canonical Marvel character. However, I rechecked The Lottery and realized that one of the primary characters is named Mr. Summers so that it explains it. (It should be noted that Jackson does not give him a first name, so I'm guessing that's a dropdown/disambiguation error unless a major plot point is Corsair hiding out in a small New England village.) But otherwise, I agree that it's likely some unwrangled fandom and I'm very curious to see what it is.

It could also be a wrangling cockup where "Mr. Summers" is synned to the marvel character.

Oh, yeah, looking at the tag for Corsair "Mr Summers" (version with no dot) is indeed synned to it, so that's probably what's done it.

That isn’t a wrangling cockup, though. The poster should probably tag it “Mr Summers (The Lottery)”.

Synning "Mr Summers" to a specific character is in fact a cockup

It's a policy decision considered more beneficial than never canonizing a short character name ever.

*or synning

DC

Well, it's an existing wrangling cockup in that the generic, no-disambiguation "Mr Summers" tag which could refer any possible Mr Summers in any fandom surely shouldn't actually be synned to the one specific Marvel character Christopher Summers. (I don't know if there are any actual guidelines for what to do with overly generic character name tags, but I would have thought even leaving them eternally unwrangled would at least be better than tossing all generic Mr Summerses into the tag for whichever character with that surname happens to be most popular or gets spotted by a tag wrangler first.)

it's one of those things where the guidelines have changed over the years, so the actual state of the archive is a mess.

It used to be you'd canonize the short version and then make a subtag for all the different fandoms' long versions, and you'll still see a lot of those around for tags from older fandoms.

They relatively recently switched to "you can syn the short version to the long version as long as most of the uses are for the same character" because they thought the metatag trees were messy but they are allergic to leaving character tags unwrangled. This was frankly a terrible decision that makes it really hard to navigate a lot of small fandoms and also means busy new fandoms often don't even notice their major character was synned to another fandom years ago until the other fandom's tag is mostly the wrong fandom, but wrangling has been heavily emphasizing large old fandoms getting to gobble everything up lately (see also: the Sherlock debacle earlier this year.)

Yeah. I mean, do we know Buffy's dad's name?

(Probably we do, but I'm not googling)

It's Hank. I'm a little embarrassed that I know this with zero thought.

And I have to amend this because I'm wrong. His first name is Joe in the story (don't know how I skipped past that), so I'm guessing it should be Mr. Joe Summers (The Lottery)?

It should probably just be Joe Summers.

*sings* I know what it is

(I didn’t write it but a friend did, I will mention the tagging issue to them)

I have strong suspicions about what it is and if so I'm quite excited to read it!
