Well, as CYRT already specified, the point is that the other two should be fandoms that are just as small as Winterblumensaat so that regardless of which one you do eventually get, it will definitely be one of your super-tiny fandoms.

When I said I have fandoms that are so rare that they never see action outside of Yuletide, I was being literal. I don't understand why it was read as some kind of general statement about how you can't get rare fandoms outside of Yuletide.

Maybe this will illustrate it a bit better.

Say my tiny fandoms-of-one to fill up my 3-fandom minimum are an Obscure VN playable for free in 5 hours, an obscure manga with a decent translation available online, and an obscure CRPG that takes an emulator to run, 80 hours to finish and has graphics only a mother could love.

No guesses which one PHers will be picking up. I mean, miracles happen but come on.

The problem is that you request three fandoms that aren't all equally rare / hard to fill. Swap out the middle one (that you presumably always get) and things will even out.

Request that specific fandoms next to two fandoms that are even rarer (or where the character/ship details are very peculiar). Don't make up fandoms like the Winterblumensaat person, but just maximize the unmatchabilty.

You're not guaranteed a gift if you're only requesting one fandom, and if you're not requesting one fandom, then you're not guaranteed a gift in a specific fandom. "Some fandoms can only really get gifts in Yuletide" is true, you're just being pedantic.

I know coalies are pedants who like to split hairs over technicalities, but "Yuletide is NOT more likely to get you a gift by someone who knows your rare fandom, because technically speaking you can get it in any exchange by forcing PHers to pick up your canons" is a new one.

Next year I'm going to have to actually submit my Winterblumensaat fandom (locally self-published fantasy series from the 1990s that exists online solely as a Goodreads entry with 0 ratings, one old ebay listing, and every slop website that scraped the ebay listing. It's good though.)

Somebody find me two more like that and we can test this.
