Who is Aurae? I missed this wank, somehow!

A few years ago someone decided to run a social experiment on exchanges by setting up a ring of socks who were all terribly behaved. They did stuff like dnwing other relationships and trying to get PHs for parents being mentioned, DNWing aus and requesting a ship that could then only be written as extremely underage, filling their own assignments by writing things that no one would think to DNW but very few people would want, or using recipes to take up hundreds of words of minimum, etc.

Wait, do we actually get confirmation that it was a social experiment or is that still only a theory?

Their main post was here:

But they seem to have deleted the post in which they muse to themselves about whether they could bear to write badly on purpose.

I had completely forgotten about that post, thank you!

In addition to what coalie above said:
1. They ignored prompts consistently to go ODAO no matter what it was, so it didn't matter if you prompted something, they'd write whatever they felt like (and they were particularly fond of writing smut about toddlers. No, I'm not making that up.)
2. Several people on meme reported them basically brushing up against their DNWs as much as they could without technically violating them. (They're one of the reasons why regular exchange participants started having more detailed DNWs.)
3. They were incredibly angry that people who wrote "Thank you for writing for me" as a complete comment for the majority of their gifts didn't get the same amount of treats as people who left longer or more enthusiastic comments, and whined about everyone that did being part of a clique.
4. They had a personal grudge against thedevilchicken for managing to thwart their socking by creating their own sock (soarc) to assign all their "tentacles" to and then defaulting on them once Aurae's socks inevitably defaulted as well (yeah, they were a constant defaulter).

yeah, they were a constant defaulter

Are you sure about that? I seem to recall them being incredibly prolific, actually. And how could they get you to write their weird squicky contradictory requests if they didn't write their assignments?

DA

That's the only part I disagree with. Their defaults were an outlier. Most of the time they'd write something juuuust barely over minimum.

No, you're right. I thought I'd remembered correctly, but when I dememed, I realized I was confusing them with a different series of socks that sucked. It almost certainly would have been better for most people if they had.

Now that it's coming back to me, I can't believe that I forgot that the funniest part about that mess was Aurae complaining tdc's exchange's sign-ups closed on time.

That was truly glorious. What a moment of digging your own hole.

(We know you're still around, Aurae. If you are reading this, why are you reading this? What does it give you to hang around where you're despised? You probably don't have to hang around people who despise you.)
