Re: Can anyone tell which was the assignment and which was the treat?
(Anonymous) 2025-11-07 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think that's bad.
I'm one of the people arguing on the side of the mods' policy, where they don't seek a pinch hit when someone already has a treat. I think pinch hitters should be sought when they are needed to get everyone a gift. But that's because the person who posted the treat "early" had a choice about that. I think if you feel uncomfortable with your treat becoming the main gift, then you should post it in a way that you're comfortable with, and you're writing treats and that's a good thing.
I hope that if that specific pinch hit lingered and lingered, you would consider picking it up with your treat, but that's a relatively rare situation.
The following situation is rare but not impossible:
-You write a treat for B
-You hold on to your treat
-B goes out as pinch hit
-G volunteers to write a pinch hit for B
-C goes out as pinch hit
-G is the only pinch hitter who knows C's canons
-C lingers and lingers and lingers because G is writing a pinch hit for B, who theoretically didn't need a pinch hit, because you were ready to post a gift for them.
And as a sometime mod, I didn't make that scenario up completely. It's happened.
But still, overall, I think it's okay to hold your treats if you want to hold your treats. We're all supposed to be having fun here. Even the mods seem to agree based on giving advice on how and in what circumstances your treats might become main gifts.
