None of those actually seem like crimes. If it ended in a plausibly open place, that's a story.

Of course I've seen some shockers that people defend as having an ambiguous ending, so obviously ymmv.

I just always hope my recip doesn't see the word count change by reveals! Sometimes it's significant.

If I saw that, I wouldn't think badly of my author. It's normal enough to come up with a new idea late in the piece, or to have two ideas for a story, one of which is lowkey and the other of which is big and epic. As long as I don't open the archive to a story that stops in the middle or is some sort of shitty frankenstein'd text, I'll assume the first version my author uploaded was a real story, just a shorter one.

The only time I've ever gotten annoyed at word count changing was when it went from about about 50 words above minimum word count to 5 words above for a story that was uploaded right at deadline - I've always seen the count go up, never down before. It didn't help that it also didn't really end, just went "it was all a dream."
