For me, it would depend on when the story is set and what word the POV character would use. Member and manhood don't read as cheesy if the setting isn't a modern one, or if the POV character is old fashioned or sheltered.

Also, the age and personality of the characters. Teenagers would be more likely to use words like 'boner'. A very sexually repressed character might avoid using any word altogether, just alluding to genitals.

Incidentally, I also like 'dick', but I know not everyone is fond of that word.

+2 The best term is the one the pov character would use (even if it sounds a bit funny to you)
