why do i know that name

I never interacted with them, so all of this is second hand, so please take with a grain of salt.

They have been active in fandom for a while, and (IIRC) is/was part of a group that considered themselves the ultimate authority on the works of Renault. There was wank about that group being elitist and unwelcoming at worst, very picky and particular at best.

Unless I am thinking of another watson.

Both watsons are bad in identical ways

a few years back during the gaybashing dragon yuletide wank both watson sisters came down heavily on the side of the writer and chastised the recipient in the fic's comments for not being sufficiently grateful for the coal they received. I believe one of them tyrned up on coal unanon one time to defend themselves but largely didn't understand the wank.

Oh, no argument with holding the grudge! I just think "well over a decade" is more than a few years back, but the years do feel weirdly compressed

I checked out the Fanlore entry for the gay-bashing dragon wank a while back to refresh my memory, and the entry is so fucking weird that I checked out the edit history and what do you know, it was mostly written by a Watson.

You're right it is a weird entry, and what's interesting is that it has copies of some of the deleted anonymous comments in full, which weren't posted here or on ffa so only the author would have had a copy.

Or someone who did screenshots of the comments when they were posted? Unless the author had comment moderation on, those would have been visible to everyone before they were deleted.

But why would one of the Watson's have taken screenshots and saved them for a future fanlore entry if they weren't the writer or friend of the writer At the time the comments were deleted by the author there was no way of knowing that the wank would blow up that spectacularly, or that the fic would need it's own fanlore entry and IIRC they weren't up for very long. There's long been speculation that the writer was a watson, because of their OTT defence of the writer, and attitude towards the recipient.

The writer was not a Watson. They are someone who hasn't participated in Yuletide for a long time now.

I know too little about this specific incident to speculate here, but I so occasionally screenshot comments on stories I come across where it feels like things are getting wanky to preserve them. And I'm sure I'm not to only one doing that

I like drama so much that I'm the person who caught the screencap of fishspeakers anonfailing here and even I have never screenshotted ao3 comments.

greerwatson is shunned by most of the rest of Biggles fandom because she wanted to explore How The Nazi Character Was Good While Also Nazi, while the rest of the fandom mostly handwaves that part of the character’s history (and there’s a lot to pick and choose from, it’s almost like comics).

There's other writers in that fandom that do that, lol. They're just more oblique about it.

Yeah I think it's the gifting the Nazis TO people that's the problem.
