They put actual prompts in their sign up, though, so this doesn't bother me.

it's not even the lack of prompts in the letter because I could glean something from the sign up, it's the combo of "whatever you're writing me is just a fun bonus" (I know she might mean this in a 'so no pressure' way but to me it's like, well why am i even putting effort into something if you don't seem to care that much) and the "surely i don't have to say that I don't want ~weird stuff~" with no elaboration about what they might personally consider weird.

Especially when in one of their fandoms where they’re requesting “any” one of the canonical pairings is into bondage role-play and another canonical pairing canonically does some experimenting in that direction.

I must admit a preference for Maud & Violet, but that's only if you're looking for a focus. If I cared a lot I would have just chosen them.

The prompts, such as they are, don't necessarily make it much better.

That part doesn't bother me, but it's true they don't give you a lot to go on.

I mean, I'd be pretty pissed off if I had matched with them based on offering other characters from that fandom. They don't really care, so they requested Any, but actually they DO have enough of a preference that they care even less about the characters I presumably wanted to write.

Not really; you're overthinking it. You can stop at "they don't care". Their vast indifference to their gift is demotivating enough already. They won't be miffed or extra indifferent if you write them other characters than those two they mention.
