+1 It was one person and they received both soft and firm pushback from other mods who thought their getting their knickers in a twist about someone else’s exchange issue and calling them a liar based on limited info was crossing a line. They then proceeded to essentially say la la la I’m not listening to you because I don’t like being told I’m wrong so I’m muting this conversation. I hate to use the word but it was cringe to witness. But yeah… one person.

It was EO. Their response after being told by multiple people that calling the recip a liar is unfair:

"Yeah I can’t really keep going on this personally because it’s a sore spot for me to get this into the weeds of whether my word choices are the perfect ones for a situation so I’m going to mute, but I do just want to say that I’m operating from the “untrue” definition especially when it’s making accusations about others"

Not a big fan of the ol' personal accountability, it seems.

The criteria is if you're involved in modding exchanges then you get to join. If there's a "cool mods only" sever then I'm afraid I'm not cool enough to be invited.

I didn't even know it existed!

A while back I was considering starting an exchange; someone offered to add me to the mod server, then came back and apologized that the server had declared that you had to be actively in the process of running an exchange to join, or something. Never did end up running the exchange lol. Have always kind of wondered what went on in there.

Are you running it in namespace anywhere that EADers usually frequent? There isn't a formal invite process so much as "Someone noticed you weren't there and invited you". I know I tend to see new mods pop soon after they ask questions on EAD, but it probably depends on who sees the question.

How easy you are to DM would also impact it, especially if you aren't already on discord in exchange spaces since they'd need your discord name to generate the invite.

It's such a shitty behavior. This is a guy that said, "They just didn’t like their gift for whatever reason so they’re lying to try to get another one," and when he received pushback, his response basically amounted to 'stop nitpicking my word choice you're hurting my feelings.'

Well that's EO in a nutshell, really. Say/do something shitty and then when called on it, pull some uwu bullshit to try turn it back on the person calling out the shitty behavior.

EO will go through a rando's gift history before acknowledging his gift backlog. Crazy world.

This is hilarious to find out because I had them as a recipient in an exchange a few years ago and they commented pretty late. I didn’t think more about it at the time but so interesting to find out additional context.

That's a pattern with them and the reason more than a few coalies are eager for more fuel on the BEC fire.

I appreciate you sharing the verbatim comment because past a certain point I honestly feel that direct quotes are a lot less uncharitable than just gossiping or vaguing. At least this way I can better make up my own mind on whether OP was paraphrasing it in an uncharitable way or not.

I'm surprised he volunteered to closely read a work for this particular exchange. Does he even go there? On the other hand, I'm completely unsurprised he said what he said. I don't even want to imagine what he would do if a participant went to him in one of his exchanges.

My experience with him is that he's nosy and self-important. So he wants to know everyone else's business, and he's self-important enough to believe his opinion matters.
