Noob question - are you allowed to nominate if you're not going to take part?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-17 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

(Also, mods have no way of knowing who nominated what unless you voluntarily enter that info on the coordination spreadsheet.)

No, in the sense that the YT mods says you shouldn't do it. But it's a dumb rule to begin with, and like the above coalie says they won't know anyway. So go ahead and do it without worries!

You shouldn't, because either you are going to duplicate someone else or because you are just going to add unused tags to the tag set and I feel like every extra tag makes AO3 cry, unless you are nominating for people who have run out of nomination slots and are definitely going to request and offer whatever you're nominating, in which case you should.

Nah, that's dumb. I've definitely nominated things then not requested them, and I could tell I was the only one who nominated them. Other people still pick them up.

Duplicate requests don't cause any issues at all, as far as I know.

AO3 is currently so much bigger than Yuletide that nothing Yuletide can do these days is gonna make it cry.

The only possible problem is that it would cause issues for the mods/matching if there's a bunch of excess noms, but since the mods increased everybody's nom slots this year, which is going to do way more of that than anyone nomming and not playing, they clearly don't seem to think it's an actual problem.

Absolutely. Every year I use a sock to nominate fandoms and that sock doesn't enter yuletide and it's never once been an issue.

I nominate things I don’t end up requesting all the time and it’s never been a problem. Occasionally I’ve gotten good fic (written and requested by someone else) out of it!
