have you guys actually got blorbos in your rare fandoms, the same way popular fandom shippers do? or just favorite characters or characters you like? is it the same sort of thing, or very different, when you're doing yuletide?

I’m generally about 50/50 in terms of my requests between “this is an interesting canon and I’m really curious to see what fanwork for it would look like” and “this is my Special Little Guy and I am constantly putting him into Situations in my head”

My main blorbo-generating fandom for the past few years is Yuletide eligible - I actually first discovered it from Yuletide!

My main blorbos have been Yuletide eligible until recently, and I've received and written Yuletide fic for them.

My overall slate of requests is a bit different for Yuletide than other exchanges, because the matching mechanism makes it feel a bit easier to request gen, ambiguous relationships, and worldbuilding/plot exploration (even without the worldbuilding tag). So there's stuff I've only requested in Yuletide, because it just seemed to fit better.

I think my blorbo will always be Yuletide-eligible. He's a cranky bugger!

I do, but it's very rare. Blorbofication for me happens after thinking through a work and seeing others' thoughts on it and have discussions about it. In Yuletide-sized fandoms, a character has to be really up my alley for me to get blorbo feelings about them - that, or it's the kind of canon that does get a lot of discussion elsewhere but never took off fannishly.

Yeah, same. For me part of a blorbo is that I'm constantly reading/watching and thinking about them for a substantial period of time, and they usually need some kind of community to engage with for that to really kick in. If there's someone I love who has a vast amount of canon and I've dug real deep into the canon I might anyway, but I usually wouldn't request someone for yuletide if it's a really rare fandom and also you need to review 800 hours of canon to do them justice.

Almost all the characters I'm obsessed with are from Yuletide-sized fandoms. Even when I get into big fandoms, my blorbos are never the popular characters. In a crowd of Aragorn/Legolas shippers I'll be that weirdo in the corner drawing little hearts around, like, Barliman Butterbur.

i'm not sure that I've ever had a blorbo, but also i'm serially moving from fandom to fandom, almost all of them very old or rare.

The line between favorite character and blorbo for me is usually "do I make ANY song on the radio about them" and yes I do have one small fandom blorbo I'm nominating this year.

Nearly every single one of my blorbos is from a fandom that's small enough to be Yuletide eligible. Some of them are from fandoms of one! Yuletide is great for me, lol.
