even though you can’t talk to them until the fic is up

You request some variant on this fic almost every year and I never get around to treating but this year I have finally, finally written a large chunk of it in advance, so please, please actually request it. Please.

omg, coalie, I am rooting for you so hard

I wish I was your recip. I'm considering dropping a staple fandom because the one (1) other person who sometimes shows up to Yuletide requesting and offering it doesn't seem to write outside of their own assignment. A few years back we were both signed up and I treated them but didn't get anything from them. Which is fine. But I'm still a bit 💔 about trying to bait them again...

Like it's a very irrational brat over "For me this is a fandom where I will write for it no matter what because it's that rare to see requests for it, but the feeling's not mutual? Awww 💔 💔 💔 "

As someone who WANTS to treat but deeply struggles to treat, I can't hold that against you, coalie. It's nice to have a basis to hope that your efforts will be returned.

Please give a hint on the fandom, coalie! I'm not sure I can do Yuletide this year for RL reasons, but if I knew someone felt this way about one of my repeated prompts I'd definitely sign up!

DC I'm reminded of last year's thread for people you meant to treat but didn't get around to.

Maybe we should have one like it for fandoms you hope to see again this year because you want to create something for them.

Oh man and I have dropped several requests I got embarrassed about asking for so many times with no treats. I guess you never know!

Hey other Yuletide participant

You requested a book series last year. During sign-ups, which were a shitty time for me, I read it, and it was a comforting dumb read for me in the gaps I could find around the shitty things. I wanted to write you a treat, but life, so I didn't. I wanted to write you a NYR, but life, so I didn't. I really hope you request it this year, but even if you don't, I want to write you a treat, and even if I don't, thanks for putting something comforting in my path in a shitty time.

I know you occasionally dabble in our mutual fandom - please do it this year, because I would love a chance to write for you!

I know we can’t control what fandom we match on but I really hope my recipient doesn’t write basically the same story they asked for, and which I have also written for them. It’s happened several years running and always feels like I got someone a present they already bought for themselves. Same fandom is one thing, same story beats is another.

I think this is a weird thing to be bothered by and your framing of it as "getting someone a present they already bought for themselves" massively downplays the whole point of exchange pic for many? most? people.

Sometimes I prompt fic with the same story beats as another fic I loved that already exists in the fandom, because I want the same thing but different.

Sometimes I prompt fic with the same story beats as a fic I have already written. Because I want to be able to enjoy it as a story, not a creation, gdi!
