To tag or not to tag, that is the question

What sort of tag (if any) would you use in this case:
- Parent & child (the latter is a grown-ass adult) are related; only parent knows, having recently found out. Child has no idea.
- Parent attempts to get to know child. It's all very platonic, 30K+, gen etc.
- One brief short-fuse moment: when child for a moment thinks it might be flirting; they aren't attracted to parent, but why not/want to get in their good graces/might as well -- child kisses parent, parent shoves them away, the truth comes out, lots of 'oh no how could this have happened' & blaming each other, angst, then reconciliation - another 20K+ of all that, then happy-ish ending.

It's not too far from the questionable stuff that canon has done (although that was mostly not with the main characters) and I thought not to tag it at all, but I do want this to be a generally gen/platonic fic focused on their developing/newly found parent & child relationship and figuring it out, and I feel like for some people this might be too much.
Idk, suggestions? I tend to tag pretty sparsely apart from main pairing/characters, POV, genre, setting, so any ideas are appreciated.

There are probably less clunky ways to phrase some of these I can't think of right now, but I think probably a string of tags, like "Misunderstandings, Mistaken Assumption of Romantic Attraction, Accidental Incestuous Kissing, Angst" or whatever might help get it across.

Or maybe this is a case where it's better to just do it as an author's note rather than (or in addition to) in the tags, where you can then articulate it more clearly as a short content note, like: "There is no incestuous attraction in this fic but there is a brief misunderstanding where X thinks Y is interested in them and makes a move to try and please them."

Yeah, I was thinking an author's note might be the best (without the tags) + reminding the readers that the tags haven't changed and that it is still strictly platonic. I like that phrasing.
But a general 'misunderstandings' tag might be good too, ty!

i have NO idea what fandom this is, op, but i want to read your fic very badly 😅 your premise sounds so wild and JUICY

I don't know coalie, but if you have 20k of them angsting about an incestuous kiss, I'd definitely include some kind of incest related tag (accidental incest?) because I suspect your readers are going to be folks who are into that kind of vibe - readers who are grossed out by the idea of incest between them aren't going to want to read a fic with so much headspace taken up by potential incest, if you see what I mean.

+1

it sounds pretty smarmy and i'd prob throw my hands up and CNTW and include all this info in the author's note

Personally I'd hate to click a fic with a bunch of interesting incest tags and then be disappointed when it all turns out to just be platonic gen like the OP describes.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I don't want to overtag. I don't think it will really appeal to people who are looking for incest. Although if anybody uses it as inspiration to write a proper incest relationship, I'd be honoured.

A fic where a lot of it is two characters reacting to accidental incest just isn't platonic gen though in terms of plot - the emotional focus is on the incesty moment. I can why op is struggling how to tag.

one unknowingly incestual kiss, angsting about accidental incest
