characters who change names or ages or genders partway through

If these weren't long-standing issues with this person's writing, I'd suspect AI.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-25 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That tells me more that you haven't ever used AI than anything else.

+1

Is it better at keeping track of details than it used to be, then? I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes. The better models can produce a 1000 word work that's as good or better than half of the collection will be. It will be fairly bland unless you lead it, but so will most of the collection.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-25 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
which are the better models?

Claude will get you a decent fic. ChatGPT 4o (not mini or turbo) will, also, but you have to give it a lot of extra instructions about writing style first.

I just played around a bit with Claude and while it doesn't result in fic being as glaringly AI as with CGPT, it would need a lot of editing still. Even with detailed background details the characters completely lacked interiority.

To fit the standards of something you might write as someone overinvested enough to be here, sure, but to hit the bar of the average Yuletide gift?

(Anonymous) 2024-11-25 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
DC

I hope you're not actually planning to submit your fic that way.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-25 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
If this is your comprehension level, you'll never be able to tell if your gift is AI or not.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-25 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
they are, presumably, part of the overinvested crowd

(Anonymous) 2024-11-27 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
I just put the text of the wikipedia article for my fandom and my recipient's prompt into Claude and I am shocked at what a cute little 1000-word fic it spit out! I would have no idea it was AI-generated. :O

bait

(Anonymous) 2024-11-27 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah it's got to be. haiku doesnt produce much worthwhile and free accounts are banned from sonnet at the moment

(Anonymous) 2024-11-27 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Bait that doesn't sound like they have a super clear grasp of how prompting works at that.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-27 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
most people who want to fight about AI don't know much about it

(Anonymous) 2024-11-30 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
An AI model with halfway decent context and character profiles won't do that. That takes human sloppiness.

AI these days is generally bland and empty and can't tell which details are important to use and which actually add meaning. Not nonsensical.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-30 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's where prompting those details comes in.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-30 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
In my experience, AI sometimes forgets what characters know various things/details, but not what characters are various things.
