Sorry, can someone help me out with the ficinabox minimum wordcount rules? I see some of the requests have a lower minimum than 10k, like 500, but does that just mean any of the component stories that make up the 10k can go that low?
You can only claim pinch hits in increments of 1k. So the lowest amount you can claim is 1k.
If the recipient opted into wordcounts lower than 1k, then you can create multiple shorter works that add up to 1k (or more). For example, if they opted into drabbles, you could claim 1k of pinch hit and write them 10 drabbles. If they opted into 300 words minimum, you could write them a 400-word ficlet and a 600-word ficlet. The works you make do not have to be for the same fandom.
Sorry, I just realized that sounds like I'm only talking about treats, when you may be asking about pinch hits. Let me rephrase.
You can write 1k for anyone, whether as a pinch hit, a treat, or an assignment. Works of 1k (or longer) are always okay. Everyone who signed up is automatically opting into 1k works.
Some people have also opted into receiving shorter works. If you plan to write 1k or longer, you don't need to worry about that. But if you wanted to write two 500-word stories instead of one 1k story, then you need to make sure the recipient opted into that, whether it's for an assignment, a pinch hit, or a treat.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-27 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)I think I'm still confused, but basically if I saw a prompt I liked I could write them a 1k story? (I'd probably write more, but not 10k)

Re: Pinch Hits
(Anonymous) 2024-10-27 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)Yes. You can write a 1k+ treat for anyone.
If you wanted to write something shorter than 1k, you'd need to make sure the recipient opted into shorter wordcounts.
