depends on the exchange and the fandom. usually in yuletide, pinch hits are in high demand and i've often got a better gift and occasionally treats.

smaller exchanges, where there's a higher chance of lingering (most of my fandoms are yuletide eligible) i've often gotten kittyfic or worse.

Yeah, the best exchange gift I’ve ever gotten was when I was a yuletide pinch hit and the worst was when I was a lingering pinch hit for another exchange.

One of my worst gifts was as a YT pinch hit. I was so excited to go out for PHs because YT means I could have gotten anything and it was going to be written by someone excited to pick me up. Instead I got 1001 words of original character fic with my requested characters as barely there cameos. It was a five minute fandom. Anyone else could have picked that up and would have done a better job.

I'm sorry, coalie. I've been in an extremely similar situation and know exactly how you feel.

(It was a five hour fandom, not a five minute fandom, but honestly the principle still applies. It wasn't exactly prohibitive to get into...)
