Morbane's coal

In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

Yeah, I don't want to give her more attention or feed into her self flagellation thing but at the same time I also don't think it's okay to say that anyone who has anything to say about her fic should just keep their mouth shut.

An author might get any kind of emotion out of discussion of their work but I feel like fic discussion is primarily for readers. You shouldn't have to refrain from talking about how you feel about a fic just because the author is weird.

mainly how utterly dirty laurie is done throughout the fic and how she's treated as almost an afterthought in her own relationship by dan who consistently prioritizes rorschach over her and bulldozes over her thoughts, feelings and desires at every turn.

a big part of her character arc is about her becoming tired of being treated that way and wanting better for herself and the fic itself even has laurie reflecting on how much she hated being treated like that by her mother, jon and others but it seems to completely lack awareness that she's still being treated that way by dan so the fic trying to present her life with dan and rorschach as an improvement falls totally flat.

the ot3 is written very v shaped with dan at the center which would be fine on its own (and is arguably the closest to canon option) but within the fic there's nothing about dan that's appealing, especially not from laurie's pov. we're meant to buy this as a developing equal poly relationship but laurie is on the outside the entire time, disrespected and disregarded because poor woobie rorschach must be treated with kid gloves and coddled by dan, and laurie is such a selfish bitch for wanting her boyfriend to pay a shred of attention to her (this is not explicitly said but the implication permeates the entire fic).

the developing laurie/rorschach end of it is badly done. if there's nothing evident about why laurie wants dan then why she wants rorschach is more of a whatever. one must admittedly have horrible taste to he into rorschach but that's an interesting character note in and of itself; the reason stated for why laurie wants him in the fic is literally just that he's there and she might as well fuck him too since Dan is which is dull as hell. the actual scenes of laurie "seducing" rorschach are passionless and uncomfortable. it's more like someone trying to coax a stray cat to them who's got a plastic bottle stuck on its head to get it off but with a sexual element added that is horribly out of place.

there is more but i know fishspeakers is probably reading this with one hand occupied and I don't really want to go on. it was just a miserable fic that was disrespectful to the female pov character who is my fave of the three from top to bottom and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

You bring up some interesting points. I'm wondering why you like this ship in the first place? As someone mildly into Watchmen, that ship ever made sense to me because Laurie and Rorschach hate each other so much. In order for the characters to be in a relationship, it would either have to be OOC or AU, which is whatever.

Are you very new to fandom or to shipping in general? Characters hating each other a lot is one of the most popular shipfic tropes. Unless you're trying to claim all enemy ships are OOC or AU.

laurie hating rorschach isn't even remotely what i'm complaining about. if anything the fic would be better if she hated him more and the contrast of her hating him and now sharing dan with him was delved into with any kind of detail. as it is she just views him as being there. he's the pathetic fuckpuppy her boyfriend brought home and keeps paying attention to while neglecting her. their relationship, both the antagonistic one and developing romantic one, is hardly explored and is uninteresting as a result.

only if you're incapable of writing character development. other writers for this ot3 have written them convincingly together set in the canon universe.

Liodain wrote the same thing and it was miles better.

Not_You is my favorite writer for the ship. liodain also has some really good stuff and so does TheFlirtMeister (who is the unfortunate recipient of the fic in question above) and etherati.

there are only 66 fics for it on ao3 though so just looking through the tag won't take long. most of it is quite decent.
