I would've preferred a surprise. I don't shake. But it doesn't ruin it for me, and I did say that I didn't mind and I'm excited but someone else might be really disappointed, so not to do it next year or in other exchanges.

Leaving anon commenting turned on for your DYW letter used to be super common. Not sure when people got so fussy about it.

I think the mods started specifically asking people not to contact recipients directly even anon, probably because a lot of writers are kinda crap about being vague enough in asking questions to preserve the surprise. (Like, "Do you have any specific preferences for robot genitalia?" type questions when you've asked for three mundane fandoms and Transformers porn as your fourth, etc.)

Not a Yuletide mod, but I mod another exchange, and nah, that's not it. It's that if you're asking for DNW clarifications/exceptions or something touching on mandatory elements of the fic, we kind of need to know both the question and the answer in case they wind up asking for an EPH.

In an exchange I modded, I noticed someone talking to their recipient in replies to their letter on Tumblr even though in multiple places in the FAQ and the rules I requested them not to do that. To no one's surprise, the same person wound up breaking other rules too and got themselves banned from future rounds on the ground of being a fucking idiot.

Mine involve USB ports in various places, LAN cards and wifi antenna. They do not involve penis or vagina in disguise.
