I think that so long as you have emotions about a canon, you have something to say about it! even if that thing is "wow these two should kiss" (or stab each other, or whatever)
it doesn't need to be the newest most special thought in the world
lots of people want to read very tropey things! that can be super comforting and fun!
did you try your best to create something that you think the recip will enjoy? then you fulfilled your part of the exchange! that's all you can do; may as well trust that the recip is likely to enjoy your efforts as well. <3
