For American memers where this is relevant, are you taking part in Thanksgiving this weekend, or planning to do some writing, or tied up/committed in other ways?

I'm visiting a few members of my extended family. They usually take it pretty easy so I should be able to do some writing, health permitting (headaches and stomachaches have not been cooperative the last couple days :/)

I’m cooking a feast. I started processing vegetables today, tomorrow I’m pre-cooking everything that can possibly be made in advance, and on Thursday I have a whole schedule of what goes in the oven at which times so everything is hot and ready and hits the table around the same time. We’ve got 4 veggie dishes, a huge quantity of stuffing and mashed potatoes, 2 birds, 2 fruit pies, brownies for the chocolate eaters, and I’m mulling wine (again, cheers!)

My goal is to make enough that there will be leftovers, but I am limited by having but one refrigerator to store everything in. Going with a non-traditional flavor profile— ginger, lemongrass, calamansi, gochujang for the bird, gomadare, miso, peanut and fish sauce for the veg. Dad’s gonna be eating kimchi and watching football as per usual while the rest of us play cards.

I'm always in awe of people who are this organized in the kitchen. There's a reason why I just volunteer child care instead *plugs in playstation*

Oh man, without the childcare volunteers we’d never be on schedule in the kitchen! To be honest my list making and scheduling helps me manage my hosting anxiety and be more confident that what I’m making will turn out well.

My favorite part of kitchen duty is that any time the conversation takes a turn I’m not up for with Uncle Hot Takes I get to say “oh, I have to go check on the oven,” and go tell the bird everything I think about Dad enabling Uncle antics.

I swear Uncle Hot Takes is a mythic cross-cultural cryptid who manifests a few times a year at dinner tables just to kill the vibe. Still, I hope you're able to relax and enjoy your leftovers now, coalie!

Not American but since it comes out for Thanksgiving I'm excited to listen to the new Til Death Do Us Blart. I feel silly for looking forward to it so much but I love this podcast and I've had a really hard, lonely and stressful November, so instead of listening to it while I work I think I'm going to make it a whole thing, like listening in the bath or making myself a nice snack and listening while I do some needle felting.

Me too!! I watch Blart every year and sometimes manage to con a friend into suffering with me.
