And another one!

I see my nemesis getting a fic that I love
And I'm like, "Fuck you"
I guess my 10k letter wasn't enough
I'm like, "Fuck you and fuck morbane, too"
Said, "If I was a long commenter, they woulda gamed for me"
Ha, now ain't that some shit?
(Ain't that some shit?)
And although there's pain in my chest
I still comment it's the best
And runs to coal to shout "Fuck you"

Please. If nothing else, I reckon she would love the attention of becoming a well-known troll.

Oh well. Collection opening is not too far away, and we'll see what wank we've been left under the tree. I hope it's good!

Worse, because they'll feel morally obligated to read until the end and comment. Unless her recip is a non-commenter, in that case I don't care.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think mods announce those decisions publicly.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't care if it's what my recip thinks. I may not be able to comment for the next 2-3 days, but I'm not going to say anything about it. I don't feel guilty for having a life outside Yuletide.

I seriously hope she's lying about her wordcount.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly I want people stop talking about her and giving her attention.

Imagine being the poor recip and feeling like you have to read over 10,000 words of drivel. I feel like their Christmas would be ruined.

Fish heads, fish heads
Roly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads
Eat them up, yum!

1 and 2 might go hand in hand since writing anything (or anything in English?) is clearly a struggle. Uncharitable, but if it looked like someone was using some kind of c&p commenting system for that reason I’d be all the more frustrated that they thought their fics were good enough for gifts, even if the commenting could be more or less sincere.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's...the whole purpose of that post though? Yeah, the anon period is a week, but if you've worked hard on a gift for someone, you'll be excited to get their response. It's a kindness to say "FYI, don't expect me to respond the day of" or whatever, especially since anyone who's done yuletide before knows that there are people who will not comment on their gifts at all and just leave their writers hanging. I guess you don't have to say why or give tmi, but that's a weird thing to cringe at, coalie.

This seems to be giving her too much credit. We could just link the wank post on her anon fail after the hi posts.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree it’s not really a big deal. The stated purpose of the post only advises commenting if you’ll be away through January but for god’s sake people can be anxious or excited to know what their recipient thinks without doing the obnoxious hand-wringing about it and it’s just a courtesy, even if I think an unnecessary one.

The comments weren't copied and pasted, though. Some nonnies were acting like spoiled brats because they weren't the long, effusive comments they felt entitled to.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I also don't think any of the posts were TMI. Maybe one of them is borderline? But saying you have a sick family member is fine... We're not all robots, people are allowed to mention their personal lives, especially when not going into details.

Whatever. They're getting longfic, whereas a lot of us are sitting here with minimum wordcount gifts.

I'd rather get a decent short fic rather than a crap longfic that's a chore to sit through and read.

The comments were short and similar, but they were written new for each work and likely sincere.

The comments were extremely similar and her author reply comments were literally copy/paste, which is how people confirmed ID of some of her DNW violations before reveal, so it was easy to conflate them.

Same

(Anonymous) 2023-12-24 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, none of them seem TMI except maybe the family member one, and I'm not going to judge the wording on an internet comment of someone who *is* dealing with that.

But if what you need to say is "I can read and kudos but may take awhile to comment", 'I have wrist issues' is no more TMI than saying 'I may not have access to a device to type on' like another comment said.

That's still not even jaywalking. It's someone saying thank you.

I have written too much of this treat to give up now, but also not enough of this treat to feel like I'm going to actually manage to finish it.

Adding to that list, she wrote a couple of things that read like spitefic. Specifically, I recall two instances where her recipient requested m/m and DNW'd a het pairing, and she wrote them gen where the characters spent a lot of time talking and thinking about the other half of the DNW'd pairing.

But #4 was definitely the big one. She signed up for every exchange, requested a lot of popular fandoms, and would request (and likely offer) every single thing within those fandoms. This made it difficult for people who specifically liked rarely written characters and ships to match with each other instead of her, caused the mismatch you mentioned where she only requested fluff but signed up with every single ship including the ones it'd be tough to write fluff for, and made it impossible to avoid her without dropping the fandom entirely. I know a few participants who would drop fandoms that she signed up with, and some that would even delete their entire signup rather than get her as their writer/recip if they had no other fandoms to add.

Whoever linked her to FFA really sucks, and I wish someone had spoken to her constructively instead, but she did ruin exchanges for a lot of people and many of those people frequent FFA. She got a lot of complaints because she was way more prolific than similar participants who only did a handful of exchanges or whose requests were easier to avoid, not because FFA joined forces to bully her out of the hobby.

I don't even think there's anything to discuss about this? If you'd rather get 10k of fishspeakers' fic than 1k of good fic, don't sign up for Yuletide.
