The problem here isn't the separate collections, but the ascending treats. Other exchanges, which have only one collection, do not have a rule that treats will be treated as main gifts.

That's because everyone is guaranteed a gift.

I honestly prefer that to the other possibility of holding up the collection for someone who has three treats.

dc: We've had years of other exchanges going that didn't ascend treats, and the BFE crowd is famously the biggest set of neurotic wankers in fandom. We have never once had that wank. It's a non-issue.

Yuletide is more than twice as large as the next-biggest exchange, and the combination of size and rarity makes it a much bigger issue than with other exchanges (which IMO is why we have ascended treats in YT). Last year coal nearly shit itself waiting two days for the IPHs to be claimed so requests to be revealed. Imagine how much worse it'd be if collection reveals got held up for even 12 hours for someone who already had a full-length gift.

Unrevealed requests are a different relic and a separate wank. If other exchanges did the same thing where they held up request reveals until after IPHs were claimed, there would be that same wank. It's been thirteen years since they moved to AO3 and split the archive in two; prior to that it was all in the same archive on yuletidetreasure and there were no issues. Madness is stupid and if it exists solely to solve a problem that every other exchange for the past thirteen years has proven doesn't exist, it's even stupider. Put it all together.
