I thought it must be about that Earth's Children fic tagged Parody, but apparently not! That one's for a different recip.

(Read it out of curiosity, Ayla's new inventions aren't nearly over-the-top OP enough to be funny.)

The other Earth's children fic doesn't have a recipient listed and there's a line in that fic about painful peeing and basketofnovas has a no mentions of waste fluids DNW.,

I think that's it. The DNW was no mentions of bodily waste, and there's this:

“The roots are useful for treating painful peeing,” Iza remarked. “Even when the water is bloody.”

“That’s right,” Ayla remembered. ”They're also useful for treating hemorrhoids.” She pulled her digging stick from her thong to add plantain roots to her collecting basket.

That's three different mentions (I count the hemorrhoids tbh).

Man, how hard is it to just... not mention peeing.

Yeah. Or hemorrhoids. That one's just beyond baffling to me. Like, what is wrong with you for thinking a gift fic needs these?

Untherius maybe?

It's not random, though, they're picking medicinal herbs. The intent is to convey 'these people are competent and know all sorts of useful things'.

However, they could have conveyed the same thing with a different random plant curing a different random ailment, so that's on them.

+1 I can see how it happened but that's not to make excuses, it should have been caught on a redraft.

I mean, if haemorrhoids are a fluid then you've got worse problems.

Don't worry, I know a plant that helps!

Someone on FFA said it was probably a brain fart and I agree. The author was looking for examples, and it didn't occur to them that this one would break the DNW. As a mod I've gotten notices about DNW-breaking fics that I would never have considered as breaking the DNW but I could see where they were coming from once they pointed it out. It sucks for the recip and it sucks for the writer.

Yep. Probably a case of having looked at the DNWs once at the beginning, gone, "Right, no scat or watersports or sickfic with bodily fluids, no problem, I'm not writing anything like that anyway," and then not even thinking about it again by the time came to the "look for some historical medicinal uses of plants" part of the writing. (Which is exactly the sort of reason you should double-check DNWs after having written the fic even if you were sure they didn't apply, but I wouldn't assume it was malicious.)

Yeah, I've checked in with recips a couple of times on "no bodily fluids" dnws (when the request involved, like, mpreg or sickfic or people getting stabbed) and the response was always "oh I only meant to dnw it in a sexy context of course", so I can absolutely see how this happened.

If i was beta reading that one i would have pinged “i think Auel would have used ‘urination,’ not ‘peeing’” but not the dnw fail.

Once i wrote 4k and managed to bungle both the dnw for “no het sex” and “no pregnancy/impregnation kink.” I caught it at the last minute, but it was internally *really* embarrassing.

Tbh, even when you double check the DNWs afterwards, I doubt it helps much in cases like this, unless you go over every sentence with a fine-tooth comb for every DNW. If it were me, I'd probably forget all about that sentence by the time I checked the DNW again. It's just so unremarkable to someone who doesn't have that DNW, I can really see why someone might have a brainfart no matter how hard they try.
