I remember this! The anxiety that made it hard to comment also made them feel pressured to read and sometimes that would put them off the thing written specifically for them based on what they asked for. While simultaneously wanting feedback on their own work but not wanting to reply to those comments either, maybe? But I might have misremembered that last bit.
