Also, even if it is about the request, anyone who's done enough exchanges has gotten that assignment where the interest overlap just isn't there. It's like feeling punched in the face because occasionally someone ships a different pairing from you. Unless you're someone who's very wanky in namespace, pinch hits hardly ever personal. I don't game at all and in 15 Yuletides, I've only been matched to someone I actually know once, and it certainly wasn't someone I disliked.
