Stalked my recip's socials and saw they talked about the gift I wrote for them with some generous praise. What's the etiquette here? Is it strange for me to acknowledge the post when they haven't commented on my fic itself?

Eh, no stranger than them doing that in the first place.

I would not go over to explicitly bug them about not commenting, but if you can drop in to politely thank them for the rec & say you're glad they liked the story and whatever, same as for a recip comment, it might give some closure & also might give them the bump they need to also comment.

(If I am stuck in a place where I haven't replied to something for long enough that it feels like it would be weird to reply/the person clearly hates me already, having a good interaction with them where they make it clear they do not hate me is usually enough to get past the anxiety.)

I agree. Keep it relatively short, but it's okay to interact there.
