Speak the truths you can never admit unanon about this year's Yuletide.

My main gift was a minimum word-count gift that turned out to be from the person in the fandom I don't care for and didn't want it to be. I suspected it was, because they write thin, miss the best parts and focus on the things I don't care about. The story was decent, my praise and thanks were genuine, but the author reveal was an ugh moment. I sincerely wish they would stop requesting and offering this fandom. Please, please, universe, don't let them be my FFFX match? *sacrifices things*

Time to contact the mods and ask not to be matched, coalie.

Yeah, I have no qualms about asking mods not to match me to certain people, but my psychic powers failed me. :P They hadn't even written in this fandom yet back then.

You could ask the mod not to let that person pick up your pinch hit if you go out as a post-deadline pinch hit.

At least two fics I read this year were kinda racist and one was due to a completely bizarre read on what the canon was doing.

Which fics?

There was a pretty bad line in a Speed fic about the movie adaptation changing a character to be Latina for the "demographics" as if the opposite isn't what actually happens in film all the time.

I wrote fic as three different people.

Every year I try to make it through the collection and every year I lose steam half way through. I know that there are fics that I will love to read in the other half, I just get exhausted from real life and burned out from it being a goal. I’m sorry to those authors that I won’t get to their fic and sorry for myself that I won’t get to read it.

The collection's not going anywhere, you can read the rest whenever you want.

It *is* a different browsing experience once the author names are on, though. I saved a bunch of open tabs of the collection from right before reveals, for later.

My author got an extension. They wrote me fic. A Harry Potter fic (some names weren't even changed). Bafflingly, they seem to know the actual canon but somehow... did this? Oh, and also hit a DNW. I'm torn between laughing my ass off or contacting the mods. And trying so, so hard not to comment.

the numbers of the collections haven't changed, so either it's not in the yuletide collection, or somebody else deleted a fic

It was revealed outside of the collection, so it won't show up in the numbers.

If it's not part of the collection couldn't it just be a random nonyuletide gift?

It's not; I got one of those "missing gifts" emails from the mods saying that this writer got an extension and the fic will be posted outside of the collection. Judging by the author's notes, it really is supposed to be a Yuletide gift. Just a really spiteful one.

DC In that case you should obviously tell the mods about it.

Though if it wasn't revealed in the collection, it's not a YT gift, and the mods probably can't do anything about it, unless it's something the person tried to gift for YT that the mods rejected or something. If it was meant as a YT gift, and the author really did get an extension from the mods, I'd say you should contact the mods about it to let them know what happened.

If it's just a random terrible gift that isn't a YT gift at all, just laugh and reject it.

I wrote an only barely bus-test-passing draft on deadline day, revised it madly on Christmas Eve, and now it's my second most successful Yuletide fic ever.

Similarly, I decided I hated my fic on christmas eve and wrote a whole new fic that night. I’m SO glad. My gift was really well received and I was so happy with it.
