Rivers of London, the protagonist and several important secondary characters are POC, so maybe they're going for the old you need to be part of the culture to write it? Though then you've got the problem of which culture, you've got Sierra Leonean, Somali, Nigerian, West Indian and several others, and the diasporic communities each have their own subcultures. Or they think they got some cultural aspect wrong? Or it could be about the fic that centred on one of the white characters.
