Don't Stop Coal Now!

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real coal time
I feel alive
And the exchange I'll turn it inside out, yeah
I'm floating around in agony
So, (don't stop me now)
(Don't stop me)
'Cause I'm having a coal time, having a coal time~

How would you describe over-editing? How does it affect the final fic?

So in my case, what can sometimes happen with over-editing is that I'll try to over-correct/over-optimize one thing at the expense of another, which especially seems to backfire for me when that means getting a little clever about the edit at the expense of honest feeling. For example, there was one fic where my beta and I got overexcited about trying to make the last part of each section reference the same major theme of the fic (think e.g. mentioning nature each time). Which isn't a bad thing, and I've written other fics where things like that work out. But now that I look back on that particular fic, I feel like because it was so late in the edit process, those particular thematic references come across as a little artificial/tacked-on, and dilute the emotional impact of the fic a bit, and now I wish I'd either made it much more subtle or left it out completely. IDK if that makes sense! I'm kind of rambling.
