This is about Yoon ha Lee (yhlee) who occasionally writes “fan” fic for his books when people request it for exchanges

I didn't notice that this got wanked over this year, but for whatever it's worth, that's not a universal opinion. I don't feel weird about him writing for his own work (or any other authors doing the same, he's just the most high-profile one, I think) and have enjoyed the fics.

That's because it wasn't wanked.

We had a polite, levelheaded, and nuanced discussion to the surprise of absolutely everyone. People had strong feelings but no one really acted like an asshole about it.

At least two people went "Wait, what do you mean yhlee is Yoon Ha Lee?!"

I do think that some of the Machineries fic this year is by him, but probably other things too (someone mentioned the Invisible Cities IF?)

I was going to say. I've been part of a couple of different discussions about him here on coal, and people on both sides have been perfectly polite and explained their opinions reasonably.
