I was there, and iirc it also came up in his comments. He had a habit of going into other works in his shared fandoms (Howl, Disney, etc) and leaving batshit comments on other people's works. Stuff like "I don't like that you made them gay" or whatever would get slipped into the wall of text.

One of his gift fics did have a hinted background lesbian pairing (very background) and he didn't freak out. I remember because I was surprised.

The relevant part of the comment:

"The not-so-veiled lesbian relationshp between Merryweather and Flora both fit the context and cast some light on the characters."

But he might have reacted differently if they had been major characters instead of background characters. Orrrr he may just dislike dudeslash (idk).

I'm betting it's the dudeslash thing. His other misogyny and such paints him as the kind of straight guy who wouldn't mind watching a little girl on girl kissing in that pervy straight guy way, but is very much no homo when guys are involved

Yeah based on what I remember he's not a "gays are evil" homophobe, he's a "gays are squicky" homophobe. He uses basically the phrasing we used to use about het pairings back in the bad old days. (He may be a former "gays are evil" homophobe who's trying real hard to be better though, that also fits the pattern.)
