Re: Hmm
(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 03:24 am (UTC)(link)I think the limiter isn't requests though, it's the tagset. Tagset size has been a fairly big discussion recently because it's the reason why eternal tagsets aren't a practical idea. Yuletide's current tagset size is stretching the limits of what AO3 can handle and relationships tend to balloon the amount of tags per fandom.
Assuming that nobody is going to want relationship tags with more than two characters in them (just to keep the numbers closer to realistic) and that both / and & tags are possibilities for each pair:
2 tags --> 4 tags (2 relationship, 2 character)
3 tags --> 9 tags (6 relationship, 3 character)
4 tags --> 16 tags (12 relationship, 4 character)
5 tags --> 25 tags (20 relationship, 5 character)
and so on.
Obviously not all of those options would be nominated and some fandoms would drop from two tags to one (just the / relationship), but you'd also have fandoms where several permutations of three or even four+ characters were nominated.
