Oh God the wank when Ao3 inevitably opendoorses FFN.

I shudder to think.

I keep hearing of the near demise of FFN and yet FFN is still going well.

I want to like ffn but the last time I went to read there the inline text ads made it literally impossible to get through a story. :{

I don't wish to be glib, but why don't you use an adblocker?

because I read fic on my work computer at work where I can't

okay that's the glib answer, but really if a website isn't functional without an adblocker you can't really defend it as a functional website.

but also online ads basically come in two types: reasonably well-behaved ads on websites I actually want to support; and fuck you anyway I don't need to go to your shitty website. so I haven't bothered with one on my home computer either, I just block the things that make up shitty websites whether they are ads or not. (ff.net won't load any fanfic pages at all with 'deeply shitty web design' blocked, sorry ff.net fans.)

NC +1 I've never bothered to get an adblocker either, and I think my reasoning is similar to yours. If the website is so bad that I need an adblocker to read it, I'm just going to avoid that website entirely. I'm fine with pages that have ads that aren't completely obnoxious.

Honestly I would be less surprised to see AO3 implode one day from a catastrophic accidental fuckup than FF.net go down permanently. But I'm not exactly staying up at night worrying about either happening any time soon.
