Nope. I would write the gen fic in such a way that the recipient can project shippiness onto it, if that makes sense. Teasing or joking that could be read as flirting, or caring gestures that could be read as meaning more. Just avoid scenarios where there are declarative statements about how great it is that they would never see the other as a romantic partner or how attracted they are to another party entirely.
