wait - I thought this was going to be the "fandoms-with-0-requests" mini-challenge? wasn't coadie/another coalie putting together a spreadsheet with those?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-27 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so, I'd be a lot more interested in treating those fandoms specifically if it was a part of this challenge.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-27 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I thiiink the compilation was for fandoms with zero OFFERS? /coadie who hasn't started work on that yet

(Anonymous) 2021-10-27 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
oh yeah you're right! (of course you are, you are the coadie! <333)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
The post doesn't say the fandoms have to have zero requests or offers, just fandoms you want or know that you couldn't fit in your sign up.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
mod here

You can request anything but I think the post works best for unrequested characters or fandoms. If someone else requested the fandom, why wouldn't the author want to gift it to them and keep it in the main collection?

I expect the only reason someone would treat a Pear Tree recip over an official requester to be because that recip is wanky or wants ship/gen when the author wants to write the opposite. For the latter that's basically like asking for an unrequested character/fandom and within the scope of the post. For the former I think most authors would just treat another fandom unless you're going through the effort of adding prompts to your sign up. I don't know how many authors of that fandom would go looking on Pear Tree in the hopes of another recip rather than moving on.

Just my 2c. Maybe a fandom with 5 requests will have an author who wants to treat your 6th one in Pear Tree because they love the fandom that much...but I think those listing 0 request characters/fandoms will see the best results.

If someone else requested the fandom, why wouldn't the author want to gift it to them and keep it in the main collection?

I think they would, provided those requests are for the types of stories they want to write. If not, maybe they can scratch that itch with this challenge, I guess.

You can request anything

Do you mean that literally, because someone's already listed fandoms that weren't even nominated. Tomorrow, Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Thanks for the challenge, by the way. I hope more people sign up and browse the requests!

If someone posts a fic to Madness for non-nonminated fandoms/fandoms too big for Yuletide without a Yultide eligible fandom attached (in the case of a crossover) the mods will kick it out, regardless of this challenge.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
They'd probably kick out large fandoms but not unnominated tiny ones.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Works in Madness do not have to precisely fit the fandoms and characters requested by a person in 2021. They do not have to be for a person who was signed up or pinch hitting this year. However, each work must be a gift for a specific person (or people) and you must have reason to believe it would be an appropriate gift for that person, as well as appropriate for a rare fandoms exchange."

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"as well as appropriate for a rare fandoms exchange."

That means Harry Potter without a crossover with a rare fandom gets the boot, dude.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
What are y’all even arguing over anymore

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Anon complained someone asked for HP on the Pear Tree post.

Another anon said it's a nonissue because the mods will kick out blatant megafandoms with no Yuletide excuses for being there like a crossover.

(Different?) Anon quoted the rules that say the mods will kick out non-rare fandoms.

(The previous?) Anon said exactly, that's what I said.

????

Eventually both/all of their recips will get a fic. Let them have petty procrastination arguments!

If you wanted it to be that way, why didn't you write it that way? It's unfair to people participating in good faith for you to be all "well actually" halfway through. What a mess.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nonnie, I think that's unfair. It's not as if the mod is now judging people. The post isn't clear about the unrequested status, and they've since said people can request whatever they want. It's not a mess; it was just some confusion that's been cleared up.

CYRT

I'm talking about what the mod (or presumably the mod) said, above us in this thread, about what they want the post to be, and what they said about making the post. That is:

You can request anything but I think the post works best for unrequested characters or fandoms.

Which is it?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
cyrt

But it's not either-or. They think people will have a greater likelihood of treats by requested unrequested fandoms (and we can disagree on that), but people can request anything they want whether it was requested or not.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Actual rules: You can request anything.

Mod opinion: I think the post works best for unrequested characters or fandoms.

Mods are allowed to have opinions, the only problem when they force them on everyone. The mod is not doing that and I don't see why it's causing you cognative dissonance. A mod can allow incest in their exchange but still have an incest DNW.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I think this exchange works best for non-incest" would be judging/inappropriate in a way a DNW wouldn't.

I've just seen a lot of comments here and on ffa saying "wait, am I doing this wrong?" because the mod said they prefer it one way.

Because I don't think my personal opinion should dictate how people do a challenge. For the MTYG challenge, I'm not policing if someone lists Steve/Bucky as a canon pairing. I think listing Ted Lasso for this challenge is wasting your shot, but what do I know? That person may still get a treat out of it. Neither the mods or I is interested in policing it.

tl;dr I said exactly what I meant on the post. It's meant for people to put their name in for fandoms that they didn't officially request in case authors were looking to write for them, that's it. There's no "well actually". The post says what it is.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
I expect the only reason someone would treat a Pear Tree recip over an official requester to be because that recip is wanky or wants ship/gen when the author wants to write the opposite.

That seems like a lot of projection. If you think someone writing for a request in Pear Tree is snubbing a request made officially, are you going to be judging everyone who does that and everyone who says "I know there are other requests but you could also treat me!"

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
This seems like a lot of projection.

I feel like a wankstarter has been produced and there's currently an attempt to light it, but hopefully it got damp and won't catch.

And to be clear, I'm talking about the post above yours and some others in this thread. I agree with you.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-28 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
+1 lol the person who could have said "only fandoms with no requests allowed" but went out of their way to allow anything within the tagset and hasn't replied to any of the signups with "this was requested tho" or outright deleted them is secretly judging (and even if they were, who gives a shit? is secretly judging a sin)????
