Yeah it's been over a decade since then and I think "allowed" was more a matter of the matching software back on yuletidetreasures not being able to parse the difference.

The vast majority of time, people who write OOC genuinely believe they are writing in character.

Perhaps including a note like "I'd prefer a canon-typical tone for this request" would help? Since I could see a lot of OOC-ness stemming from someone trying to write fluffy, happy fic for a dark and angsty canon, etc.

Feel free to DNW specific characterization notes if you want, especially if they turn up a lot, but the problem with a general OOC dnw is it's utterly useless.

Depending on the fandom/character/prompts it might be worth saying you want it to stick with canon characterization (i.e. if you're requesting rape fic or a way-out AU) because occasionally people actually want ooc on those but tbh it's generally also useless then.

Going into extreme detail that this specific headcanon is the only possible interpretation of the character that's correct and anything else is awful get into wank territory though.

Can you still do that with offers? Where you offer the same thing twice with different characters? I feel like that did work on AO3? (It hasn't really come up as much since they started splitting the anthology fandoms.)

AO3 does have that functionality, but there's no way to use that feature and be sure that everyone is offering the required minimum number of fandoms unless mods manually go through and check. Otherwise I could just offer Calvin and Hobbes four times. For smaller exchanges this is feasible, but not for Yuletide.

Yep, this. I do it with manual checking in a much smaller exchange, and it’s fiddly but doable, even given the need to contact people who misunderstood how it works and wait for them to get back to me. Yuletide is already very time-intensive to run, and this would make it more so.

Back when there were somewhat different rules for fandom nomination, it would be like, all of ST in one tag. So someone would request/offer Kirk and Spock in one slot, and Janeway/Seven on another slot, and know there was no risk they'd match with the person who wanted T'Pol or the person who wanted McCoy/Dax.

But fandoms like that are split now anyway.

You'd also get someone who wanted A/B or B/C but definitely not A/C, so they did two separate bins, though that was more offers than requests.

My google-fu is failing me on finding a way for us to generated bingo cards from a common list unless we like, have a google doc and then copypasta...

Yeah, I was sideeying that too.

(If it had just been the novel-only characters--iirc Evan Wilson and Jinx to-Ennien?--I would have been A-OK with that. I like old Trek novels in Yuletide but I want them for the book-only characters!)

DNW: OOC is wanky and unenforceable, but if there is a dynamic between characters you dislike, be specific about DNWing that dynamic. e.g DNW: submissive Character A.

Also add some positives about what you do like. "I really enjoy the snarky banter between A and B and how A is such a badass when Canon Event happens."
