Back when there were somewhat different rules for fandom nomination, it would be like, all of ST in one tag. So someone would request/offer Kirk and Spock in one slot, and Janeway/Seven on another slot, and know there was no risk they'd match with the person who wanted T'Pol or the person who wanted McCoy/Dax.

But fandoms like that are split now anyway.

You'd also get someone who wanted A/B or B/C but definitely not A/C, so they did two separate bins, though that was more offers than requests.

Not a ton, but yeah, it got used. Personally, I saw it in smaller fandoms (not just different versions of Trek) but to request non-canon m/m ship 1 and non-canon f/f ship 2 (and not risk picking all 4 and getting assigned someone who wanted het with those characters).
