The Coalies Are Back In Town
Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Coaltide Bar'n'Grill
The receipts will flow and wank will spill
And if the coalies wanna fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long 'til Yuletide comes
Now that the coalies are here again

Re: Stupid Questions
(Anonymous) 2021-10-13 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)Long answer: what I try to do in these instances is start by talking about the aspects I like about the relationship between the two characters, like in general terms, not just shippy terms. For example, maybe I talk about liking how their relationship evolves over the course of canon, and how I love all the little moments of collaboration and connection amidst the general hostility. Or whatever. Then I give my shippy prompts, but I've laid that foundation of what I like about the characters together in general.
That way, if I do get an author who doesn't want to write the ship, they still have plenty of material to write a gen fic about the two characters that captures some of their appeal for me, without me ever explicitly giving any gen outs.

And I've always regretted it when I gave gen outs. People (fairly!) took me up on it . . . and I might still not have ended up with ship fic, but I think I would've had a better chance without those gen outs.
