Yes like a prompt that says “what would Amy do if she got coal in her stocking?” or having a reference in your general section that is like “I love noncon; one man’s coal is another man’s diamond!” or “AUs in this fandom would unfortunately be a lump of coal for me”.

Plausible deniability, but nobody who doesn’t know about coal probably wouldn’t think to include the reference and those who are coalies but don’t want to be known of as one would actively avoid it. So the people who do include those references have a 90% chance of being a coalie signaling to other coalies they’re kin.

I think you're massively underestimating how normal it is to reference coal in relation to anything to do with christmas and overestimating how many people even know coal exists. I'd drop that percentage to like 10% at best.
