The Coalies Are Back In Town

Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Coaltide Bar'n'Grill
The receipts will flow and wank will spill
And if the coalies wanna fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long 'til Yuletide comes
Now that the coalies are here again

It's kind of sad that the mods won't just separate the nominations out into episodes themselves. Or I guess maybe they can't? And it would mean those people nominated more fandoms than they were allowed, so there's that too. But there were six of the nine episodes I would have happily offered for and I was really hoping they'd all get in.

It's been a couple years since I modded anything with a tagset, but I think what happens in these cases is the mods alter the nominated fandom and approve it as "Specific Episode" (Star Wars Visions) and only approve the characters that go with that episode.

They probably could temporarily re-open the tagset for fixes and add the episodes as new nominations, but that's not gonna happen.

Mods can add anything they want to the tagset without re-opening it or anything. They just do it on the back end.

It's actually faster for me to do it that way now. You just need two comma separated lists (fandoms and nominations) to put into the right fields on the edit page to get them into the tagset then a batch load list (Fandom,Character,Character,Character... with each fandom on a new line) for the batch load page to associate them all, and you can load hundreds of nominations at once with no limit on number of fandoms or characters.

It's possible there were other noms that were already separated into episodes - it was on the evidence post, wasn't it, and they asked for specific eps? So it may not actually make much difference with these.

Yeah, this. I would be pissed off if someone was able to nominate an extra fandom in this way (because two episodes, from one nomination) when I played by the rules and only got to nominate three fandoms.

Why would someone bother with this when you can just sock up?

They're the same fandom. There are nine episodes. There is no fic. I don't know why the mods decided this canon has to be broken up into individual episodes to qualify. Every aspect is far below the YT minimums in every way. They are basically telling people you can and should make three Star Wars requests for the same series for your whole Yuletide signup.

It's an anthology series though- one episode has no obvious relation to any other. It's how they deal with anthologies. Different seasons of American Horror story are judged as individual fandoms. The Paris je t'aime movie gets in all the time, but usually it's just as the short The Marais even though the whole movie would be eligible.

I wouldn't be annoyed since someone else's nominations have nothing to do with me and I doubt they did it to get around the rules.

Though I'd rather the mods just pick the episode that was entered first and approve that if the nominators don't get back to them, rather than trashing the nomination entirely

The mods probably have a suspicion its a sock nomination pool (same formatting, nobody was nominated twice despite 5+ people nomming) and are annoyed by it.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-06 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They said only two people nominated.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-06 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My understanding is that two people nominated "Star Wars: Visions" as a fandom, and at least one other person nominated specific episodes as separate fandoms (which is what the mods ultimately wanted).

CYRT

That makes two people who picked the fandom canonical tag and the character canonical tags, not a sock army of 5+ who nominated everything the same way.
