UGH. I just made a horrified face reading this comment. It’s not wanky to DNW covid, is it? I know we’re supposed to be all about the new normal now but I can’t stand covid popping up in fics.

I DNW'd Covid, pandemics, sick-fic and quarantines last year and was not wanked about, go for it.

Thing I wish I could DNW that probably would be wanky: AU settings in poor taste (all the Covid, Holocaust, post terror-attack etc. fic that I shouldn't have to explicitly ask not to receive and yet people persist in writing.)

I don't think it's wanky, either, but I do think it's fairly pointless in practice. Even with some examples, I don't think people who are writing some of those stories actually see them as in poor taste.

DC To be fair, I think that if someone did a fic that featured the Holocaust in their assignment, even if it wasn't listed as a specific DNW, I feel like the mods would probably send that out as a pinch hit.

It's definitely not wanky to DNW covid, or any illness for that matter. If you've been negatively affected by an illness (even if you haven't had it yourself) it's very reasonable to not want to engage with something about that it. Especially when the thing in question is a piece of fiction for entertainment purposes, and double-especially when said piece of fiction is a gift for you.

Saying "I personally do not want to encounter covid fic" is not wanky in the least.

We got COVID-inspired fic last year. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.

I wouldn't mind getting a fic semi-influenced by COVID. One of my canons was released before 2020, but pandemics (and vaccines...and conspiracy theories...) are literally part of the plot.

I suspect we'll get at least one covid fic where the letter mentioned it as an option, the writer wanted to write it, and nobody wanked about it at all.
