The Coalies Are Back In Town

Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Coaltide Bar'n'Grill
The receipts will flow and wank will spill
And if the coalies wanna fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long 'til Yuletide comes
Now that the coalies are here again

Re: How Likely Are People to Read Smut Anon on AO3?

Either there's a large cohort of people who come to AO3 only for weird porn and don't have accounts, or people log out to kudos & comment so their name isn't attached. Which is more effort than I'd put in, so kudos to them?

But yeah weird porn in general has a bad hit/kudos ratio, logged-in-only weird porn has a *terrible* hit/kudos ratio.

A lot of my real life friends think of AO3 as basically an anonymous porn repository. They read stuff on it regularly, but it would never occur to them to make accounts or leave any kind of feedback. They have no sense of fandom as community. To them, the stories might as well be written by AIs.

Tell them there's a lot of porn they can only see if they have an account! I think a lot of casuals don't realize that.

A lot of my real life friends think of AO3 as basically an anonymous porn repository.

Now I'm picturing a masked person in a trenchcoat and fedora slinking up to an unmarked door half-hidden behind an over-flowing dumpster in a back-alley, fastidiously avoiding a puddle of beer and used condoms.

They knock on the door in an odd, syncopated rhythm. A tiny window opens at eye level, revealing nothing but darkness within.

The masked figure whispers hoarsely, "I'm come to make ... a deposit."

The door creaks open. The person disappears inside.
