The Coalies Are Back In Town

Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Coaltide Bar'n'Grill
The receipts will flow and wank will spill
And if the coalies wanna fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long 'til Yuletide comes
Now that the coalies are here again

"Am I misusing "worldbuilding" if I say I only want things involving (any) canon characters?"

Not "misusing" but if you want Any Canon Character then just request Any and make sure the tagset has a bunch of characters and add in your OD box that you are fine with any character in canon

"what happened during the canon timeskip?"
Not a good use of the worldbuilding tag imo but i guess you could use it if you don't care about having literally any character in the whole canon as the main character- although then why not just use Any

"a story from when everybody was at boarding school"
again, if you're cool with literally any character in canon, sure, but I think Any is a better fit

"any canon character and their relationship to religion"
I would use Any for this

"anything set at Hogwarts during the period between Grindlewald and Voldemore that engages with changes in Muggle society"
would use Any

Are people going to expect to only get requests for encyclopedia articles about grain tariffs?
no

Is there some other interpretation of "worldbuilding" that's going to trip me up?
yes

If I want "worldbuilding that expands on this part of canon" is it still safer to request worldbuilding + a character from that part of canon or can I go with just "worldbuilding"?
Just request any, or any + worldbuilding (AND matching)

And if I offer "Worldbuilding" what kind of prompts do you think I can expect to get?
literally anything

I don't think you understand how Any works

Uh. You've done a great job at explaining all the different kinds of worldbuilding you wouldn't use Worldbuilding for! I'm not sure what's left though. What *would* you use it for?
