The Coalies Are Back In Town
Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Coaltide Bar'n'Grill
The receipts will flow and wank will spill
And if the coalies wanna fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long 'til Yuletide comes
Now that the coalies are here again

Re: Why and How You Participate In Yuletide
(Anonymous) 2021-10-02 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)For me, it's about 3/4 writing, and 1/4 reading. I've had some incredible luck getting wonderful fic I wouldn't otherwise get to read (and it wouldn't even exist otherwise), so the lottery ticket aspect of Yuletide where sometimes you get something amazing and sometimes you don't is weirdly addicting, in that way inconsistent rewards can be.
But I mostly focus on writing, and the ritual of writing for a recipient. I like the idea that each fall I basically get an assignment to re-read a book or re-watch a show I love, and then deep dive into it to try to write my assignee something I hope they'll love. I find it incredibly rewarding. Sometimes it's a capstone to a year where I've otherwise written a lot, sometimes it's the only thing I write that year, but the ritual of it means a lot to me. It really is part of my holiday season, and gives me something to look forward to no matter what is happening with the rest of my life.
