COALTIDE Episode IV: A New Hope
It is a period of indecision.
Gaming gone right for some,
coalies successfully snagging
the assignment they wanted,
the first major hurdle against
Yuletide odds is a victory.
However for those not as lucky
to have gotten the recipient they
wanted, coalies can't help but
think about the hidden requests,
missed bullet and gem alike,
they now have to wait months
to get access to.
Haunted by these assignments that
could have been, or perhaps
mourning the gaming attempt that
went awry, coalies tell themselves
that they will get started on their
assignment right away so that they can
treat to their hearts content and
restore happiness to the Yuletide galaxy....
Assignments out: between 26 & 28 October

(Anonymous) 2020-10-27 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, I guess it goes to show that you can try not to sound judgmental but still sound judgmental. It's not the "not my cup of tea" phrasing that bothers me--that's fine!--it's more the things like these:
When the main plot is a person having amnesia, characters suddenly age regressing into children and characters switching bodies, I tend to stop reading. This is simply because I've seen those tropes done so many times before in fanfiction.
. No hate on submissive women! They just tend to be the default in fiction [...] Please just avoid the "all women and fem-presenting people are automatically submissive in bed, even if they start out taking the initiative"-trope that permeates most of media
And later down in their letter: I love when there's a clear difference between "D/s scene" and "people just deciding to have sex" because sex can definitely happen without anyone taking the lead - something I feel a lot of mainstream erotica forgets, especially when it comes to m/f couples.
None of this is horrific or wanky or anything. It's not the kind of thing I would post in a "Bad Letters" threat here. It just feels like they're using their Yuletide letter to rant about tropes they dislike in a tone that implies the tropes are bad.
