"series 3 has a group of Stand Users traveling the world to defeat the Evil Bad Guy. Series 5 has a group of Mafia members/Stand Users who decide to turn against their Boss who is spreading drug use throughout Italy. These couldn't be more different."

"Different series have different overarching plots" is a bit weaksauce, agreed.

The style overall changes between parts as well - it's not just the main plot type, there are other differences between, say, a procedural and a horror movie. That said, I still wouldn't have even considered arguing for parts 1-6, though looking as some other "borderline cases" that were okayed in the past I can see why someone would try. Though you'd think they would try to sound more convincing.

Parts 7 and 8 are genuine only-few-things-in-common AUs. Think Marvel 1602 to 616, but even fewer shared names/concepts/other elements. Though I think the person who nominated 7 alone (Steel Ball Run) could have made a better argument too. That said, a lot of people tend to throw several prominent characters into the all-parts crossovers so I don't know how the numbers pan out.
