I was in a situation like yours a while ago, and to be honest, it was kind of freeing for me, once I got over the initial disappointment. When you don't feel the pressure to write the perfectly tailored fic, you can just write the best fic you can under the circumstances, which is a lot less stressful, at least for me. Sure, it won't make the recipient as happy as what they really want, but maybe someone else will appreciate your work.

I don't know a lot about octopi, but I know enough about cuttlefish and squid that I'd be a lot happier with this than I would a lot of other popular AUs. Time to make it a fad!

Nobody is claiming that all lesbians agree. That would be ridiculous. Your sexuality does not fit you into one political box in which all people share the same political views.

The point is that the term is used specifically against lesbians. I would disagree with AYRT in that I consider it primarily a sexist slur rather than a homophobic one. At most it might be called lesbophobic, though I'm not a fan of breaking down -phobia oppressions into subsections.
