So are author reveals happening in 2min or is that just me being unable to read? Guess we'll find out!

(Anonymous) 2019-12-31 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was 9AM UK/4AM EST/1AM PST just like the collection opened.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
AO3 says 12AM on the 1st, which is now I think?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
SA oh they've changed it since yesterday... thanks Morbane.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe she's hungover like me. 6pm is a much better time for managing reveals than 9am...

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but 12AM is not 9AM. Again, the collection opens at 9AM

Here is the countdown https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=YT19+Author+Reveals+and+Yuletide+End&iso=20200101T09&p1=1440

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's 9am in NZ and as late as last night that's when it said author reveals were happening.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
The post with the countdown link has been up since Thursday.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Guess they only just updated the profile page then. /shrug

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
lol you're an idiot

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Trusting Ao3 time when mod posts literally exist seems stupid to me but I understand how timezones and full 7 day anon periods work so maybe we’re operating on a different level of competency here.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
AO3 is where the exchange is run. I literally don't check any other times because I consider those the most official version.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
DC I rarely visit the admin comm. Certainly for something as incidental as author reveals I'm not going to double check anywhere else and just assume whatever the AO3 schedule says goes.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ao3 times are usually placeholders. If the collection is delayed or whatever, the mods will update the comm and not the Ao3 page.

This is evidenced by the actual time being on the mod comm the entire time.

I don’t know what to tell you beyond this being a useful learning experience for you to check the mod comm of all exchanges going forward.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Yeah, and for things like the collection opening being delayed, I tend to get emails for DW posts with headers like "Collection Opening Being Delayed", so I'm still notified. I don't expect the time on the AO3 having been wrong in the first place, without an update to the community that tells me so.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
From the time the dates were announced at the start of October they have been placeholders on AO3. That is why this only got changed last night apparently.

Yuletide always does reveals at the same time the collection opened, regardless. This should have been your first clue to suspect something was off.

When you got the notification for the last mod post and read it, you would have seen the countdown explanation.

As a mod, this is very much not true. I've never had the times on AO3 be merely placeholders, and if I ever needed to change anything I changed it everywhere - not just a mod comm that most people don't actually check. The time listed on AO3 is what most people look at.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
As long as the AO3 time is always the earliest a collection will ever open idgaf if delays are announced elsewhere. In fact I prefer it because tracking delivers the update straight to me.

For yuletide, which is the specific exchange that's being discussed, the AO3 times being left as placeholders is so common that we pretty much expect it. Which is why this wasn't an issue at all before fic reveals. This is very very stale wank and it's unlikely to change in the future.

Yes, you're right, it's absolutely stupid that any idiot would have looked at the time given on an official page written by the Yuletide mods when they could have just looked at the different time on a different official page also written by the Yuletide mods.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* I guess if you’re a noob this is new information to you.

1) Yuletide (and most non-wanky exchanges) will always do reveals at the same time the collection opened to give everyone a full anon period. If it opened at 9am then the reveals will be 9am. If there was a delay, it will do reveals at whatever time the delay was.

2) Mods of exchanges with a DW/LJ based update system will, in fact, update their communities more often than they will AO3. There is no way for people to realize an AO3 change has been made, but people can track or just see that a new post went up on a comm. If you thought reveals were at one time and then got confused when they didn’t happen at 12:01, go to the comm and see what is going on.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"If you thought reveals were at one time and then got confused when they didn’t happen at 12:01, go to the comm and see what is going on."

OP this is what I did? I can't believe that you're blaming anyone but the mods for having two different times listed on two different official profiles lmfao.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
You came to coal. If you went to the admin comm you never would have needed to ask here.
