As a mod, this is very much not true. I've never had the times on AO3 be merely placeholders, and if I ever needed to change anything I changed it everywhere - not just a mod comm that most people don't actually check. The time listed on AO3 is what most people look at.

As long as the AO3 time is always the earliest a collection will ever open idgaf if delays are announced elsewhere. In fact I prefer it because tracking delivers the update straight to me.

NAYRT why do you keep talking about a delay? It's not a delay when it opens exactly as scheduled. The problem is there are two different schedules.

For yuletide, which is the specific exchange that's being discussed, the AO3 times being left as placeholders is so common that we pretty much expect it. Which is why this wasn't an issue at all before fic reveals. This is very very stale wank and it's unlikely to change in the future.

You can look at old coaltide and admin posts for proof. So much is “(tba)”, then they do countdowns when a time is selected (because most people are too dumb to do timezone math and get confused by AO3). Anything set to 12 A.M. for Yuletide’s purposes is a guaranteed default time they don’t mean.

If you are a mod, I’d hope you know reveals are the same time as the collection opening.

Actually, the cirt made it out as if it was all AO3 exchanges in general that did this, which is what I responded to. It wasn't specifically about Yuletide, no.

Coalie the post is right there. I can see why you might have read it with that lens, but their first two paragraphs were pretty clearly about Yuletide (what with the references to specific things those mods do in both paragraphs). Hence why multiple people thought you were being dumb.

I'm not the op. But sure, call *me* dumb. 🙄

c'mon, do we have to end this post with namecalling and the dumbest wank possible?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
The “stupid” comment started way earlier by the side that can’t figure out how things work but yes it’s namecalling and dumb now suddenly.

It's just author reveals - or the precise timing of author reveals in fact - this is such a weird thing for people to be this wanky about.

This is a proxy wank for “the mods fucking suck for failing admin duties because if they were good then I wouldn’t ever be confused/need to ask questions” vs “you are stupid or lazy for needing the mods to explain things to you in the first place” evergreen wank. Some coalies never want to admit they didn’t get things other people do...and other coalies will not let them get away with shifting the blame. It’s why there’s wank over “oh no I missed the deadline” every year too.

Most people voted for no new post so this won’t be the end. Please make a thread to distract people tho
