It's one thing for someone to not like what I made because our tastes don't match, it's another for them to do so because they could write it better themselves.)

I think you've overthinking it. For me, I enjoy gifts from clearly beginner writers (not saying that's you, just as an example) as long as they seem to be earnest efforts to write me a fic I'd like. Whether I could write better myself if there were infinite hours in a day is besides the point. And even if I could, the only way I could fully enjoy that kind of story is if I wrote it, didn't look at it for five years to the point of completely forgetting what it's about, and then read it. Not very efficient!
